PLENARY LECTURE 1 |

Prof. Christopher Jarzynski
Statistical Physics, University of Maryland, USA
Title: Scaling down the laws of thermodynamics
Time: 10:00~10:48, Oct. 21 (Wed)
Place: Tamna Hall A, 5th Floor, ICC Jeju
Abstract:
The study of thermodynamics originated in an engineering problem: how to build a better steam engine. The field has evolved into a remarkable conceptual framework and set of laws that govern the exchange of energy and matter. Einstein called it, “the only physical theory of universal content which I am convinced will never be overthrown”. Although the laws of thermodynamics were originally expressed with macroscopic objects in mind, nanoscale systems, such as biomolecular motors, also exhibit “thermodynamic-like” behavior. To what extent do thermodynamic laws apply to individual microscopic systems, and what new features emerge at the nanoscale? I will describe some of the challenges and recent progress – both theoretical and experimental – associated with these questions. Along the way, my talk will touch on apparent “violations” of the second law, the thermodynamic arrow of time, Maxwell’s demon, and quantum thermodynamics. |

Title: AI Supercomputing for Next-Generation Industry and Technology
Time: 11:00~11:48, Oct. 21 (Wed)
Place: Tamna Hall A, 5th Floor, ICC Jeju
Abstract:
Today, AI has evolved beyond simple LLMs or services into a new industry composed of five key layers — Energy, Chips, Infrastructure, Models, and Services. Jensen Huang refers to this as the “AI 5-Layer Cake.” The remarkable advances in AI are being enabled by the emergence of the AI Factory — a next-generation factory concept that takes electricity and data as inputs and produces intelligence, or tokens, as its output. This evolution is driving the development of new technologies and industries, from Agentic AI to Physical AI. In this session, we will explore the latest technology and industry trends in AI and provide a broader perspective on the technological and industrial transformation that lies ahead. |
